One North Carolina Form Moves Any Entity Off Bizee

The Bundle Is Worth Taking

Bizee, formerly Incfile, includes registered agent coverage inside its formation packages at no additional charge. Depending on the package, that runs somewhere between three months and a full year. For anyone forming a North Carolina company anyway, this is a straightforward saving on a legal requirement that attaches the moment the state accepts your filing. Nothing about it is a trick and we would not advise skipping it.

What Happens When It Ends

Standalone Bizee agent service costs $149 a year. That is the rate the bundled window hands you off to, and it is the rate every year afterward.

Two things make that transition awkward rather than merely expensive:

• The end date depends on a package you picked long ago. Three months and twelve months are very different commitments, and the difference is not printed anywhere you will happen to look next spring.
• Nothing about the changeover requires your attention. Free service becoming paid service is a billing event, not a decision point. It happens whether or not you evaluated it.

Our Price, and What Rides Along With It

$99 a year, renewing at $99, with no bundled stretch that expires and no standalone rate hiding behind it. In that price:

• Court papers scanned the same business day they reach us and filed straight into your portal, with an email notice
• The state record shows our street address, not the one on your driver's licence
• Reminders before April 15, when the state's $200 annual report is due
• Document access whenever you want it

Not the cheapest, and we will say so on a page about hidden transitions rather than pretend. BetterLegal advertises $90 annually. What we will stand behind is that $99 falls in the low band of flat pricing published for this state and that it never moves, which is a different and more useful promise than a low opening figure.

Switching From Bizee in North Carolina: The Full Procedure

North Carolina made this unusually simple by refusing to split its agent rules across entity statutes. Everything lives in Chapter 55D, so a single document does the work for every kind of registered company.

The document. Form BE-06, which North Carolina titles as a statement of change covering the registered office, the registered agent, or both. One form, whether you run an LLC, a business corporation, a nonprofit, or a partnership. There is no LLC edition to hunt for.

The fee. $5.00, recited on the face of the form.

Where it goes. The North Carolina Department of the Secretary of State, whose Business Registration Division keeps the entity records, by PDF upload or online.

The authority. § 55D-31 is the provision that governs moving a registered office or a registered agent.

Who you may name. Either an individual who actually resides in North Carolina, or a company authorized to do business here that operates its own office from the same address it is listing as your registered office. One restriction catches people out: your own entity cannot serve as its own agent, since the form's instructions require somebody other than the company itself. A member who lives in the state may serve personally, which is a real option, though it puts a home address into a searchable public database and requires somebody to be standing there during business hours.

The address rule. The registered office has to be a physical street address in North Carolina. A post office box is allowed only as an additional mailing address, never as the office itself.

The order. Engage the replacement first. The form asks who is taking over, so it cannot even be completed without a successor named, and letting the free window simply lapse is not the same thing as being replaced. Sign the new agent, submit BE-06, watch the entity record change, and only then close things out with Bizee. Done in that sequence, the appointment on your record stays filled without a break, and no summons ever arrives somewhere nobody is looking after it.
